The Batch Consolidation Conduits is part of Portland’s 20 year program to control combined sewer and stormwater overflows to the Willamette River.
The work includes the construction of six tunnel access shaft sites. The tunnel shafts will be used to launch and retrieve the microtunneling boring machine (MTBM) and future maintenance access. The shafts range from 23 to 33 feet in diameter and will be 40 to 72 feet deep.
Two MBTMs (84” & 54” in diameter) will tunnel and install most of the 8500 feet of pipeline at depths ranging from 20 to 70 feet.
